From 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. on October 26, the School of Foreign Languages successfully held the 11th Teaching Competition in A201 of the Annex of the Main Building. The contest was held for the purpose of further strengthening the faculty construction of the School of Foreign Languages, and steadfastly enhancing the professional teaching level and quality of the School faculty in accordance with the requirements of the “Notice on Holding the 11th Teaching Competition of Jiangsu University (Jiangda Jiaolian [2022] No. 6)”. Seven teachers, respectively from English Department, Japanese Department, the Department of European Languages and the Fundamental Department of College English Teaching, participated in the contest. Xu Wei, Director of the University’s Planning and Development Office, Su Jianhong, Deputy Dean of the Overseas Education College & Pace-setter of the Discipline of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the first category, Zhang Qi'an, Teaching Superintendent of the University, Wang Yuefang, a senior teacher representative of the School, and Wu Yuanyuan, Deputy Director of the Expanded Department of College English Teaching and Director of the National First-class Undergraduate Course, served as judges of the competition. Wu Peng, Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, presided over the contest. More than 100 faculty members of the School comprise the audience.
Before the competition, SFL Dean Li Chongyue made a brief opening speech. He stressed that an important icon of the development strength of the School lies with the teaching level and capability of the faculty. The School has always been supporting the teaching work of the faculty, encouraging them to participate in various teaching competitions, and will continue to offer incentives to the competitors. The competitors had carefully prepared and designed the teaching episodes in light of the students’ learning conditions and the characteristics of the curriculum, worked out the appropriate methods that would highlight the key and difficult points of the teaching contents, and actively integrated language points with the ideological and political contents of the course. The teacher contestants delivered their lectures in vivid words, with detailed explanation and elegant style, thus creating an active atmosphere of classroom instruction. Their performance fully demonstrated the solid professional foundation and outstanding teaching ability of the front-line teachers. The judges and experts gave marks to the contestants in terms of teaching design, teaching content, teaching display, language expressions, etc. The Competition awarded one first prize (Mao Yanfeng), two second prizes (Wang Shukui, & Wang Linzhi), and four third prizes (Li Ying, Guo Lin, Zhou Rong, & Yao Weijie).
After the competition, the five judges made detailed comments on the competitors, who fully affirmed the excellent performance of theirs. The expert judges also put forward professional opinions on foreign language education and teaching. They encouraged the School faculty to strengthen learning, improve their professional quality, be innovative, and truly shoulder the educational mission and responsibility of the new era.
