On February 12 and February 13, the SFL held in succession video conferences including the Joint Party and Administration Meeting, the Administrative Committee Meeting, the Party Committee Meeting, the Meeting of Party Branch Secretaries to further promote and fully implement the work on epidemic prevention and control and the opening of the new semester. At these meetings, Party Committee Secretary Lu Yunsong conveyed the latest deployment of the University on the epidemic prevention and control and the start of the new semester. Party Committee Deputy Secretary and School Deputy Dean Xia Jianru conveyed the instructions of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the University.
The SFL organized the School Working Group on Epidemic Prevention and Control in accordance with the unified deployment and demands of the University at the earliest time. It formulated the “Jiangsu University School of Foreign Languages Emergency Plan on Containing the Spread of COVID-19”, revising and updating the plan in view of the epidemic situation. The School adopted the “Grid” management, establishing a flexible mechanism for information communication via QQ, WeChat, etc., conducting a thorough investigation of the epidemic situation, keeping track of the health condition of all faculty members and students of the School, keeping record of their health data and travel history, offering guidance to people with a higher risk of contagion, and tailoring measures for individuals or individual groups of people based on accurate statistics. A key faculty member was hired to offer a videoed demo lesson for the whole faculty, who offered tips on how to use the online teaching apps quickly, answering various questions raised by the trainees. The School also organized donations of protective products like face masks for students in the epidemic areas.
Finally Lu Yunsong put forward requirements for the epidemic prevention and control and the opening of the new semester. He stressed the necessity of unifying our ideology and hoisting our political stance. He demanded that in the course of containing the epidemic situation and making preparations for the new semester, we should bring into full play the role of a Party organization as the fighting fortress and the vanguard and exemplary role of each member of the Communist Party, keep timely track of the ideological trends of the faculty and students, strengthen the ideological guidance of the publicity work, not make, spread or fall prey to rumors, and do a good job in ideological and political education. He also stressed the importance of dealing with emergencies in a timely manner, having a clear idea of the epidemic data, situation, and information exchange, doing everything conscientiously, and ensuring that all work is done smoothly concerning the epidemic containment and the commencement of the new semester.
