From November 8 to 10, the Jiangsu quarter-final of 2019 “FLTRP Cup” National English Public Speaking Contest was held in the Wentian Building of Hohai University. English for Education undergraduate Li Chongying and English Language and Literature postgraduate Zhou Tianbao participated in the contest on behalf of Jiangsu University. They both won a second prize. School of Foreign Languages Dean Li Chongyue was invited to serve as a panelist.
The quarter-final for Jiangsu contestants this year amounted to 168. They are from nearly 80 colleges and universities in Jiangsu province. Through a two-day fierce competition, 17 students were awarded a first prize, 25 a second prize and 61 a third prize. The quarter-final is divided into two rounds. The first round is a prepared speech on “My Big Story in 2049” that lasts for three minutes, followed by speakers’ answering the questions on the speech raised by the panelists. The second round contains an impromptu speech and a themed debate, which put a high demand on the adaptability of students. Li Chongying did a good job at the first-round contest, coming out 13th in her group and promoted to the final. The two students from Jiangsu University are both very confident about themselves in the contest, speaking English fluently and showing the gracefulness of JSU students. They have won the best results at this contest in recent years.
The “FLTRP Cup” National English Public Speaking Contest was initiated in 2002. It has been paid extensive attention both at home and abroad.
