On November 8, a delegation of 4 headed by Northwest Polytechnical University School of Foreign Languages Deputy Dean Zhou Shuang visited Jiangsu University for an investigation into the curriculum construction of College English. School of Foreign Languages Deputy Dean Wu Peng, together with College English Teaching Department II Dean Hua Houkun, Center for International Language Courses (College English Teaching Department III) Dean Kong Lingxuan, College English Teaching Department I Deputy Dean Xin Ying, and Center for Foreign Language Learning Deputy Directors Lu Mulin and Ju Xiaoli, met with the visitors.
At the meeting, Wu Peng introduced to the visitors the history of College English teaching in Jiangsu University for about 50 years and the achievements that have been made in each state-level teaching reform. He highlighted the persistent efforts that have been made by the College English faculty of Jiangsu University in the construction and perfection of the “Quasi-English Major” curriculum system that comprise a variety of course modules, the personalized/student-friendly graded teaching system, the College English teaching model design and implementation termed “One Body with Two Wings Style”, the academic English curriculum system for a general purpose, the integration of ideological and political construction into College English courses, the individualized language learning diagnosis, and the cultivation of youth faculty. Then Hua Houkun, Kong Lingxuan and others answered the questions by the visitors concerning a variety of issues. The visitors from Northwest Polytechnical University thought highly of the achievements that have been made in the College English courses of Jiangsu University and the influence these achievements have exerted in China. Moreover, they admired at the enthusiasm, pioneering spirit, and esprit de corps of the College English teaching staff of Jiangsu University. Deputy Dean Zhou Shuang said, the various measures that have been adopted by the College English teaching staff of Jiangsu Universtiy will shed light on the College English curriculum reform to be carried out in Northwest Polytechnical University. He extended hopes that the two universities would conduct actual operation in the development, design and implementation of College English curriculum.
