On November 1, South China Normal University School of Foreign Studies Professor Zhang Ping visited Jiangsu University and delivered a lecture in Z110 of the Main Building entitled “Multiple perspectives on foreign language lexicon acquisition”. School of Foreign Languages Dean Professor Li Chongyue as well as over 50 staff and students attended the lecture presided over by School of Foreign Languages Deputy Dean Professor Su Jianhong.
In her lecture, Professor Zhang Ping examined the frontier issues in current foreign language lexicon acquisition from the perspectives of cognition, neuroscience, corpus linguistics, language acquisition, social culture, dynamic system, etc. The informative lecture of Professor Zhang’s provides a reference to faculty and postgraduates in their paper and research design. Professor Zhang’s elaborate explanations and succinct diction engrossed the audience. During the Q-A session, she answered the questions raised by the audience and offered suggestions on their academic research. Both staff and students said they have benefited a lot from her lecture. Not only did her lecture deepen their understanding of lexicon acquisition and teaching, but it also enlarged their horizon on the academic studies in this particular field.
Professor Zhang Ping is currently a Ph.D supervisor at the School of Foreign Studies, South China Normal University. She was once a visiting scholar at Cambridge University. She is a member as well as a branch director of the Academic Committee of South China Normal University, an academic young and middle-aged pace-setter of the “Qinglan Project” of Jiangsu province, an executive director of the Professional Committee of Second Language Processing, and a director of the Professional Committee of Psycholinguistics.
