The Jiangsu finals at Nanjing were jointly organized by Jiangsu Association for College Foreign Language Teaching. 226 contestants from 74 colleges and universities and 223 contestants from 73 colleges and universities in Jiangsu province participated in the Jiangsu finals for writing and reading. The writing contest contains two parts, respectively devoted to argumentative writing and expository writing. Contestants are required to complete writing about 1000 words within two hours online. A specially designed writing system is adopted to score students’ writing. The reading contest includes both reading comprehension and writing, which is appraised jointly by the writing system and by examiners.
The “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” National English Writing Contest and National English Reading Contest are important platforms to promote students’ English language and culture quality, to enrich campus culture, and elevate the undergraduate teaching quality. Leaders of both Jiangsu University and the School of Foreign Languages attach importance to this competition. In September this year, the best contestants to participate in the two provincial finals were selected on the basis of fair competition through the tryouts jointly sponsored by the Teaching Affairs Office and the School of Foreign Languages and organized by the Clinic for Foreign Language Learning of the School of Foreign Languages. The successful holding of the contests demonstrates the solid English foundation of JSU students, further enrich the second classroom activities for English, and activate the enthusiasm of JSU students for English learning.
