On the afternoon of May 15, Nanjing University MTI Education Center Director Professor Wei Xiangqing, together with Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Chief Translator, Huawei 2012 Laboratory Nanjing Branch Former Director, Huawei Translation Center Nanjing Branch Former Director Zhang Jiannong, a distinguished alumnus of Jiangsu University, gave a lecture in Z513 to over 50 faculty members of the School of Foreign Languages. The titles of their lectures are respectively “Reflections on the problems of and solutions to the MTI talent cultivation in China” and “Enterprise translation and localized services: processes, organization and talents”. School of Foreign Languages Deputy Dean & Foreign Languages and Literatures Discipline Leader Professor Su Jianhong presided over the meeting.
In her lecture, Professor Wei Xiangqing first briefed the overall situation and individual features of the MTI programs offered by Jiangsu institutions of higher learning. Then she focused on the long-standing experiences, features, achievements and continuous improvement planning of the MTI program of Nanjing University. Towards the end of her lecture, she put forward valuable suggestions to Jiangsu University on the application for the MTI program in the future. To sum up, Professor Wei’s lecture is resourceful, thought-provoking and greatly instructive.
What followed is Mr. Zhang Jiannong’s lecture based on his experience of many years in the field of (globalization, internationalization, localization and translation) in Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. In his lecture, Mr. Zhang elaborated on the requirements for language and translation talents in the globalized context, introducing his experience in the enterprise-university joint cultivation of MTI. His lecture offers useful reference for the translation teaching and student cultivation of the School of Foreign Languages.
After the lectures, Professor Wei Xiangqing and Mr. Zhang Jiannong held talks with key faculty members of the School engaged in translation teaching and research, as well as Dean Li Chongyue and Deputy Dean Su Jianhong. The two specialists offered guidance to the participants on the faculty qualifications, cultivation environment and conditions, advantages and features, etc. concerning Jiangsu University’s application for a MTI program. Both the leaders and faculty of the School learned a lot from the consultations with the specialists. They are gaining experiences for the professional development of the School.
