On May 8, School of Foreign Languages Dean Li Chongyue headed a team of six, including Deputy Dean Su Jianhong, Deputy Dean Wang Ying and heads of the English and the Japanese Department, conduct research on foreign language major and discipline construction in colleges and universities at Nanjing.
On the morning of the day, the 6 delegates went to visit the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Dean Fan Xiangtao first extended a warm welcome to the visitors from Jiangsu University. Then he briefly introduced the basic situation of the faculty, majors and disciplines of the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Moreover, heads of the Japanese and the English Department introduced their major construction and specialty characteristics. In addition, Deputy Dean Xu Yizhong introduced the basic situation of the specialty construction. In 2010, the English Program (for Civil Aviation) of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics was ranked among the Feature Specialties of Jiangsu Province. In 2012, the English Program was ranked among the Key College and University Specialties of the 12th Five-Year Plan of Jiangsu Province. Subsequently, the two parties entered into in-depth exchanges on how to create original specialty features, how to stimulate the faculty’s vitality, and how to recruit talents. Finally, Dean Fan accompanied the delegates of Jiangsu University to see the experimental equipment and offices.
On the afternoon of the day, they went to visit the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Deputy Dean Zang Qing gave a warm reception to the visitors from Jiangsu University. He introduced the basic situation of the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications. Heads of the English, the Japanese and the Translation Departments introduced in detail the faculty, curriculum and characteristics of each department. In addition, Deputy Dean Yuan Zhoumin introduced the basic situation and the achievements they have made in discipline construction. The English Program (Language + ICT, that is Information and Communication Technology) was ranked among the Feature Specialties of Jiangsu Province in 2012. Subsequently, the two parties exchanged their experiences of and the bottleneck problems confronting the major and discipline construction.
The School of Foreign Languages, Jiangsu University attaches great importance to creating specialty features and actively promotes the foreign language discipline construction. Dean of the School of Foreign Languages personally headed a team to conduct research in other colleges and universities. A School-wide discussion has been organized on the major and discipline construction to summarize experiences, find out the deficiency, work out constructive development measures. The school is committed to highlighting the features of foreign language majors and enhance the performance of discipline construction by seizing the opportunity of the University’s application for the “Double First-Class University” and the “First-class Undergraduate Programs”.
