On the afternoon of April 26, Professor Yu Jianhua at Shanghai International Studies University was invited to give a lecture entitled "Writing research papers: cognition, preparation and diction" in Z513. The lecture was chaired by Professor Su Jianhong, Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Head of the Discipline of Foreign Languages and Literatures. Faculty and students from the School of Foreign Languages, the School of Liberal Arts and the School of Finance and Economics attended the lecture.
Professor Yu's strategically important speech is profound in meaning but simplistic in diction, as well as superficial and elegant, which renders fascinating the seemingly uninteresting academic issues to the audience. Firstly, he explained from the cognitive perspective why university teachers need to do scientific research. Then, he illustrated the main parts of paper writing with specific examples, including the title, abstract, keywords and body part of the paper. Professor Yu's lecture not only deals with the way of research paper writing , but also gives us a glimpse of his conduct as a man, a scholar and a teacher, as well as of his elegant performance as a "National Excellent Teacher".
Professor Yu Jianhua is an educator with high moral standards, strict with his academic research, and has published quite a few books and papers. He is a retired member of the Steering Committee of the English Majors under the Ministry of Education. He has been awarded the title of "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contribution" by the Chinese Ministry of Human Resources. Not only does his lecture helps further promote the development of academic research in the School, but it also sheds light on the construction of the “Double First-class" Project and the construction of "Three-Full Education” Initiative in JSU.
