On the afternoon of April 10, the School of Foreign Languages held a ceremony for the founding of College English Teaching Department III. The meeting was attended by all School leaders, all department deans and the whole faculty of the newly founded CET Department III. The new department was founded for the purpose of better serving the international strategy of the University.
At the meeting, Dean Li Chongyue first introduced the background of the initiative, the key responsibilities of the new department, and the significance of founding this new department. He declared the faculty of the department and its dean and deputy deans. The CET Department III is founded on the basis of the former Center for International Language Courses. It is mainly put in charge of the IELTS and TOEFL teaching. Currently it has 15 full-time faculty members and a number of part-time faculty members. All these teachers possess plentiful experiences in the teaching of international language courses and has obtained excellent teaching performance. The dean called on the leaders of the new department to courageously take their responsibilities, striving to elevate the IELTS and TOEFL teaching of the University to new heights and making distinct improvements on their teaching. He also called on the leaders of CET Department I and CET Department II to offer their help to the new department on their own initiative and join hands to do their contribution to the construction of Jiangsu University into an international university. Deputy Dean Wu Peng, who is in charge of teaching affairs, put forward some concrete requirements for the department faculty. Finally, SFL Party Committee Secretary Lu Yunsong called on the faculty to firmly bear in mind their mission, consolidate cooperation and mutual help, consider the overall situation in dealing with problems, be attentive to details, reinforce the power of execution, and do whatever they can to fulfill the task of constructing Jiangsu University into a high-level research-oriented international university.
