On the afternoon of December 5, the School of Foreign Languages held a “Fine-pine Forum” in A303. School of Foreign Languages Dean & Party Committee Deputy Secretary Professor Li Chongyue was invited to give a lecture to undergraduate and graduate students. More than 100 students attended the lecture entitled “International Communication of Mao Zedong’s Poetry”.
Mao Zedong is a great revolutionist, statesman and military strategist. As a political poet, Mao Zedong enjoys a high prestige in the history of modern Chinese literature for his poetic creation that harmoniously blends history and poetry into an epic. Mao’s poetry played an important role in the New Democratic Revolution and the construction of New China. Professor Li introduced the history of the international spread of Mao Zedong’s poetry by dividing his lecture into the following parts: a brief introduction to Mao Zedong's poems, sporadic translation of Mao’s poems before they were published in a collection, the first foreign language version of Mao’s poetry at home and abroad, the publication of the “authorized version” of Mao’s poetry, the translation and introduction of Mao poems abroad in 1960-70's, and the “diversified” translation of Mao poems in the post-Mao era.
