From November 30 to December 2, the 13th Academic Forum for Foreign Language Graduate Students in Jiangsu Colleges and Universities was successfully held in the Lotus Pool Campus of Yangzhou University. The forum was jointly sponsored by Jiangsu Institute of Foreign Language Teaching and Research and the Organizing Committee of the Academic Forum for Foreign Language Graduate Students in Jiangsu Colleges and Universities. More than 200 experts, scholars and doctoral and master's degree candidates from more than 20 colleges and universities in Jiangsu participated in the conference. Headed by Deputy Dean Su Jianhong and Dean Assistant Wu Peng, six graduate students from the School of Foreign Languages, Jiangsu University participated in the Forum.
Vice President of Yangzhou University Professor Yu Hongliang, President of the Association for Foreign Language Teaching in Jiangsu Colleges and Universities Professor Li Xiaoxiang, and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Academic Forum for Jiangsu Graduate Students Professor Chen Xinren, each delivered a speech at the opening ceremony . In the follow-up expert lectures, Southeast University Professor Li Xiaoxiang, Nanjing Universityrofessor Chen Xinren, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics Professor Fan Xiangtao and Yangzhou University Professor Yu Jianhua delivered excellent lectures to the teachers and graduate students present at the forum respectively entitled “Top-level Design of Graduate Students’ Academic Career", "Literature Review and Academic Innovation", "Translation Research and Paper Writing" and "Hot Issues in Foreign Literary Studies and Paper Writing".
Tu Mengli and Wang Chuwen, Grade 17 graduate students of the School of Foreign Languages, attended the parallel session of linguistics and the parallel session of translation respectively. The four other students each submitted the session reports of their papers. Particularly, Tu Menglei, tutored by Wu Peng, won a second prize for her paper entitled "A Pragma-dialectical approach to academic papers - A case study of Jenny Thomas's Cross-cultural Pragmatic Failure”. In addition Wang Chuwen also won a prize for her paper.
By participating in this forum, students not only practiced their academic exchange ability and displayed a good academic style and academic accomplishment, but also learned a lot from the expert lectures, their comments on students’ presentations and reports, and the performance of outstanding students from other colleges and universities.
