September 15, the “5th Japanese Composition-Speech Contest” was held in Songjiang campus of Shanghai International Studies University. The contest was sponsored by Omaru Transportation Corporation of Japan, Hiroshima University, and Shanghai International Studies University, with special support from Shibuya Scholarship Foundation, Fukuyama Transporting Co., Ltd, and Shanghai Fushan International Logistics Co., Ltd. JSU students of the Japanese Department headed by Associate Professor Dai Lin participated in the contest. Japanese major Hao Hao of Class 1501 won an individual special prize at the contest.
With the theme of “communication”, the contest is aimed at providing an opportunity for the Japanese educators in China to publish their achievement, promoting the cultural communication between China and Japan and raising the awareness of traffic/communication safety. This year’s contest offers 1 special prize, 6 excellent prizes, 1 Consul General at Shanghai special prize, and 1 gold and 1 silver group prize of, namely, the Omaru Transportation Corporation Award. The contest comprises 3 links, that is content revision, live presentation and Q&A. Hao Hao delivered a speech titled “Sino-Japanese rapport and ‘communication’”, in which she sets forth the growth of Sino-Japanese relationship with the “communication” of people and things at different levels against the backdrop of the 40th anniversary of the normalization of relations between China and Japan. She points out the new challenges and opportunities facing the Sino-Japanese relations in the coming 40 years when China will be takings her “Belt and Road” initiative. The speech by Hao Hao was unanimously commended by the panelists. She stands out to defeat contestants from other famous Chinese universities by answering the questions raised by the panelists composedly and finally win an individual special prize. This is the best result that has been created by Japanese majors of Jiangsu University at the contest, and it is also a new honor won after the group gold prize of last year. The Japanese majors again demonstrated their abilities and won honor for Jiangsu University.
The Japanese faculty of the School of Foreign Languages have made great efforts to construct the quality culture of undergraduate education, actively created opportunities for students to “go off campus” and test their classroom learning in practice, and taken pains to enhance the learning enthusiasm of the Japanese majors and their comprehensive ability of the Japanese language.
