From April 17th to 19th, Mr. Wang Chongliang, senior Japanese education expert at the Japan Foundation-Beijing Japanese Culture Center visited JU at the invitation of the School of Foreign Languages. On the afternoon of April 18th, he made an academic report in A301 titled “Japanese language and Japanese culture” to all faculty members and students of the Japanese Department. The report was chaired by Prof. Su Jianhong, deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages. More than 120 teachers and students from the Japanese Department as well as students from other schools and colleges attended the lecture.
The lecture by Mr. Wang Chongliang mainly introduces the Japanese education at Beijing Japanese Culture Center; the Japanese living habits and the marriage ceremony and the funeral offerings; and the approach of understanding the close relationship between language and culture and habits through reading some short texts. His lecture helps deepen students’ understanding of the Japanese language and culture, remind them of the importance of understanding the Japanese culture in the process of learning Japanese so that they can learn Japanese well enough to communicate smoothly with the Japanese people. During the Q-A session after the lecture, Mr. Wang Chongliang patiently answered questions raised by the students.
During his stay at JU, Mr. Wang Chongliang had exchanges with Dean Chen Hong, Deputy Dean Su Jianhong, and Deputy Dean Li Chongyui on the training of Japanese language teachers and regional cultural exchange activities. In addition, he also shared with the Japanese faculty his experiences on Japanese teaching and the Japanese course evaluation system. The teachers benefited greatly from talks with the visitor.
Mr. Wang Chongliang was graduated from the Japanese Department, East China Normal University in 1978, and received his master’s degree of Japanese Language Education from Tsukuba University in 1988. He has been a lecturer at the Japanese Department, Shanghai Normal University, a full-time lecturer at the Japanese International Center of the Japan Foundation, a visiting professor at National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, and a Japanese education consultant at the Beijing Japanese Cultural Center. He is currently a senior Japanese education expert at the Beijing Japanese Cultural Center with fruitful research achievements in Japanese language, Japanese culture, Japanese language education and other related fields. The Japan Foundation, to which Mr. Wang Chongliang is affiliated, is the only specialized agency in Japan that conducts international cultural exchanges in all countries and regions of the world. In order to deepen the mutual understanding between peoples of the world and the Japanese people, the agency provides various kinds of information by planning on various activities. The center has organized a variety of activities and businesses in various parts of China. The main activities include cultural and artistic exchanges, Japanese language education, and the knowledge exchanges of Japan studies.
