From October 26 to 27, Xu Bu, Chairman of Institute for Global Development and Security of Jiangsu University attended 2024 China-Asean Dialogue, hosted by the Collaborative Innovation Center of South China Sea Studies. Dean of the School of International Studies, Nanjing University Zhu Feng presided over the meeting, while Xu Bu delivered a keynote speech and concluding remarks.
Scholars from China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei and other countries participated in this dialogue. Speaking highly of the gains in China-ASEAN cooperation, they expressed that China has become the most important partner in trade and economic cooperation for ASEAN members, and the China-ASEAN partnership enjoys broad prospects.
Noting that acts of driving a wedge between ASEAN members and enthusiastically putting together exclusive small circles (targeted against particular countries) of a few Western countries seriously disrupted ASEAN centrality (in the regional architecture), solidarity and cooperation of the Asia-Pacific region, Xu Bu said China and ASEAN countries should strengthen cooperation and shield the negotiation from interference to safeguard stability and development in the region.
