December 22-23, the first “Yixue Cup” Jiangsu College Business English Practical Skills Competition was held in Yangzhou University. Wang Zhuoran, Dong Yuyang and Ma Chenchen , three English majors (Business English ) from the School of Foreign Languages participated in the competition as a team and won a second prize at it.
Sponsored by the College Business English Teaching Collaborating Group under the Ministry of Education, the competition was hosted and undertaken by Yangzhou University, with technical support from Xiamen Yixue Software Co., Ltd. Delegates of 15 colleges and universities from Jiangsu province participated in the competition.
The competition is aimed at promoting the major construction, curriculum reform, practical base construction, faculty construction and teaching reform of Business English in colleges and universities of Jiangsu province, enhancing the industry-teaching integration and the university-enterprise cooperation, establishing a collegiate platform for the communication and exchanges of faculties and students, further promoting the professional skills and quality of Business English majors and other related majors, and raising the comprehensive training quality of talents.
The competition that consists of software platform testing and on-site contest examines the English language skills, practical international trading skills, international business communicative skills and the practical application of interdisciplinary comprehensive knowledge of the students. By overcoming the difficulties arising from the insufficient time for preparation and the scare knowledge obtained from classroom instruction and under the meticulous guidance of Yao Wei and Ma Ying, the three students from the School of Foreign Languages eventually won the second prize. Their performance was universally commended for their ingenuity and strictness by the panelists for the on-site contest.
In addition to training the practical professional skills of the students, this competition helps build up the students’ confidence, promotes their professional abilities and quality, gains plentiful practical resources for Business English teaching and research, and points out the orientation for the future effort to be made in teaching.
