On the morning of October 27, 2017, Ms Zhou Rong of the School of Foreign Languages gave a demo lesson of “Basic Japanese” in Room 427 of the Sanshan Building. A number of faculty members of the School listened to the lecture and participated in the after-class teaching assessment.
The lecture was given to Japanese majors of Class 2, Grade 2017 on the fourth lesson of New Japanese 1 titled “Academy City (Gakuen Toshi)”. Based on the students’ level and teaching content, Ms Zhou has done a careful design on many aspects of her lesson: first she got students to review their prior knowledge of the Japanese pronunciation, then she mobilized their enthusiasm and activated the class atmosphere by means of multimedia device, and then she got the students to quickly grasp the gist and framework of the text through several short dialogues. In addition, Ms Zhou taught students how to make the existential sentences and how to use the adjectives and adjectival verbs in the Japanese language with vivid and interesting examples and a large number of pictures. Finally, Ms Zhou summed up the learning objectives of her lesson, assigned the homework, and offered them some tips on planning their university career. To recapitulate, the amicable Ms Zhou got through her lesson in fluent Japanese and with animated facial expressions, thus making her class alive with thought-provoking ideas.
After the open class, the observers conducted a collective review of it. All agreed that Ms Zhou Rong is well equipped with professional knowledge, has a natural teaching style, her interactions with students are various and numerous, and she is capable of making her teaching contents properly and flexibly integrated. So her lecture won a high praise from all the teachers coming to observe her class.
