Days ago, tryouts of the 2017 “FLTRP Cup” “Uchallenge” were held in Jiangsu University. Hosted jointly by the Teaching Affairs Office and the School of Foreign Languages of Jiangsu University, the competitions were organized by the Center for International Language Courses at the School of Foreign Languages. The Uchallenge embraces the “FLTRP Cup” National English Public Speaking Contest, the “FLTRP Cup” National English Writing Contest, and the “FLTRP Cup” National English Reading Contest. More than 1,200 students (including those attending more than one contest) from all majors and grades on campus have been attracted to attend the three “FLTRP Cup” tryouts this year of Jiangsu University Division.
In the writing tryout held on September 28, a total of 250 contestants sat for the 2-hour writing exam in two sections. Through a day’s grading and selecting, the panelists made up of 7 teachers of the School finally decided on the award list comprising 3 grand prizes, 2 first prizes, 6 second prizes and 12 third prizes. The 3 grand prize winners will attend the 2017 “FLTRP Cup” National English Writing Contest for Jiangsu Division on behalf of Jiangsu University. The participants in the reading contest started on October 14 amounted to 700, a record high in history. 3 grand prize winners were elected through 2 rounds of fierce competition and they will attend the 2017 “FLTRP Cup” English Reading Contest for Jiangsu Division on behalf of Jiangsu University. In the meanwhile, 5 students were awarded a first prize, 14 a second prize, and 32 a third prize. The public speaking contest cost the longest time. 32 contestants were first chosen from 250 participants from different majors and grades of the University to participate in the tryout. Through rounds of careful selection, 12 contestants were entered in the final of the “FLTRP Cup” National English Public Speaking Contest for Jiangsu University Division held on the evening of October 19. 4 finalists were chosen to attend the contest for Jiangsu Division respectively on behalf of Jiangsu University and Jingjiang College. In the meanwhile, first, second and third prizes were awarded to excellent participants in the contest for Jiangsu University Division.
The “FLTRP Cup” “Uchallenge” is a public competition jointly hosted and organized by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Beijing Waiyan Online Education Technology Co., Ltd, National Foreign Languages Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, National Advisory Board on Teaching English Language to Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, and National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education. It is a competition platform created by FLTRP for young participants to challenge themselves, to improve themselves, and to be themselves. Each year Jiangsu University sends the best English talents to participate in the contest and they have won different awards for the University at contests of both the provincial and the national level.
