September 22, the “Second Half Year of 2017 English Testing for International Communication Testing Work Conference hosted by China Foreign Language Testing Center officially commenced in Beijing. More than 200 heads of the Schools (or Departments) of Foreign Languages, the Teaching Affairs Offices and/or the Audio-Visual Education Centers of colleges and universities from all over China attended the meeting to hold talks on the testing notion, the duty of a test center, and the long-term development of the ETIC. At the meeting Jiangsu University was authorized by China Foreign Language Testing Center as one of the 50 test centers of the ETIC in the second half year of 2017. Professor Li Chongyue, a deputy dean of the School, signed the memorandum of cooperation with China Foreign Language Testing Center on behalf of the newly founded test center at the School of Foreign Languages, Jiangsu University. Director Kong Lingxuan of the CILC at the School and Ms. Yao Wei of the English Department attended the workshop on testing affairs and preparation in the subsequent two days.
Since the end of 2016, the School of Foreign Languages had carried out several rounds of profound discussion with China Foreign Language Testing Center on the cooperation about the “ETIC”, reaching a highly consistent agreement in succession on kernel issues like the coverage of the testing center, the preparation for testing affairs, the plan for test training, the plan for the promotion of faculties’ professional level, etc. There are only three universities appointed as the test centers of the first batch this time in Jiangsu province. In addition to Jiangsu University, the other two are Soochow University and China University of Mining and Technology. This event marks the achievement that has been made by and the future potential of Jiangsu University in the international talent cultivation.
The English Testing for International Communication (shortened as the “ETIC”) hosted by China Foreign Language Testing Center at Beijing Foreign Studies University is a authorized testing system for the ability of English communication against the backdrop of the continuous advancing of China’s “Belt and Road” Initiative and the continuous promotion of China’s ability to participate in the global governance, for the purpose of fixing a standard for the employers to recruit and select the urgently needed professional talents with a global vision, adept at the use of a foreign language, and proficient at international negotiations. The “EITC” is subdivided into “Basic ETIC”, “Intermediate ETIC”, “Advanced ETIC”, “Summit ETIC” and “Advanced Translation or Interpretation of ETIC”, aimed at cultivating and selecting talents of all kinds and levels for all walks of life. The “ETIC” has been acknowledged and supported by the HR Offices of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, China Development Bank, China Southern Airlines Group Corporation, some international organizations, multinationals, foreign enterprises in China and large-scale state-owned enterprises and nongovernmental organizations, and has now become the “professional standard” with which to evaluate the English capability of international talents.
