On the afternoon of September 27, College English Teaching Department I, the School of Foreign Language, held a novel teaching research workshop in Z107. Director Zhu Qiong from the Teachers’ Teaching Development Center of the Teaching Affairs Office attended the teaching research workshop, together with Li Wenqing, Xu Kangmei and Zhang Qi’an, teaching supervisors of the School of Foreign Languages, and Wu Peng and Ding Min, respectively dean assistant and teaching secretary of the School of Foreign Languages.
The workshop that focuses on “Foreign language listening comprehension: spanning across teaching, learning and research” was carried out both individually and collectively. The individual presentation was delivered in succession by Dean Li Jiajun of College English Teaching Department I and Ms. Xin Ying, winner of the Grand Prize for the FLTRP “Star Teacher” Contest. In her lecture, Xin Ying first elaborated on the difference and similarity in listening test between the IELTS and the CET-6. By citing the testing results of CET-6 in previous years, Li Jiajun noted the point from where teachers may make breakthrough progress in the foreign language competency of Grade 2016, making an in-depth exploration into both the revelation and practice of English listening instruction. During the time for collective discussion, Wang Yuefang, Kong Lingxuan, Fan Feng and Li Rui voiced their insightful opinions on the themes of “Role of teachers and students in listening instruction” and “Ways to urge students to take initiative to practice English listening”. Finally, Director Zhu and teachers supervisors all give an affirmative comment on the workshop undertaken by faculties of CET Department I, but they also offered their instructive suggestions. Dean Assistant Dr. Wu Peng summed up the discussion by requiring the faculties of CET Department I to do a precise, elaborate and meticulous.
To recapitulate, the workshop was held to promote the exchanges of listening teaching experiences between colleagues, to renovate the teaching notion of the listening faculties, and to provide more specific services for the students bent on cultivating their foreign language capability.
