May 19-21, the 4th International Conference on Psycholinguistics in China was held in South China Normal University. This year’s conference welcomes more than 200 experts and scholars both at home and abroad. The meeting is themed at “a multidisciplinary approach to psycholingusitics”. Dr. Zhang Beizheng at the School of Foreign Languages, Jiangsu University attended and spoke at the 2017 conference.
The meeting was undertaken by the School of Foreign Language and Culture and the School of Psychology of South China Normal University under the sponsorship of the Psycholinguistics Committee under China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese. Professor Wu Jian, a vice president of South China Normal University, Professor Dong Yanping, director of the Psycholinguistics Committee under China Association for Comparative Studies of English and Chinese, and Professor Zhou Rong, dean of the School of Foreign Language and Culture, South China Normal University attended the meeting and delivered speeches at the opening ceremony. The meeting comprises keynote speeches and parallel discussions. Five distinguished Chinese and foreign experts in the field of psycholinguistics, including Kara Federmeier, Ping Li, and Bai Xuejun, were invited to give keynote speeches at the symposium, who elaborated on the frontier issues, research trends and state-of-art technologies of psycholinguistics. At the parallel speeches, participants shared their opinions and achievements on the central theme of “a multidisciplinary approach to psycholinguistics” and ten specific topics, that is “new approaches to psycholinguistics”, “processing of the pronunciation, lexicon, sentence structure and meaning of native language and foreign language”, “a pragmatic approach to psycholinguistics”, “speech cognition and output mechanism”, “a neuroscience approach to language cognition”, “language problems of the aphasia”, “language development and social cognition”, “bilingual representation”, “understanding and processing of non-original meanings” and “artificial intelligence linguistics”.
Dr. Zhang Beizheng attended the parallel discussion on “processing of the pronunciation, lexicon, sentence structure and meaning of native language and foreign language” and presented his paper titled “form factors in second language lexical representation”. His paper was well acclaimed by the participants of the meeting. After the meeting, Dr. Zhang Beizheng exchanged ideas with the scholars from both China and abroad on key issues in the field of lexical processing. (School of Foreign Languages)
