May 29, 21 undergraduates of different majors of Jiangsu University respectively won first, second and third prizes for English-Chinese translation at the 3rd LSCAT Jiangsu Translation Competition. 10 students respectively won first, second and third prizes for Chinese-English translation at the competition. In addition, 39 more students won excellent prizes. Deng Yanqin coached by Kong Lingxuan and Zhao Hong coached by Zhong Jihong respectively won a first prize for English-Chinese translation and a first prize for Chinese-English translation.
This competition was jointly held by the LSCAT Center, Jiangsu Translators Association and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Association for Jiangsu Institutions of Higher Learning. The concrete tasks were undertaken by Jiangsu Branch of the LSCAT Center. The competitors are required to consecutively register at the official website of the LSCAT under Translators Association of China, download the original texts, translate them on their own and submit the translated texts to the organizing committee. Under the publicity and organization of the English Department, the School of Foreign Languages, students of Jiangsu University have actively participated in the competition, conscientiously coached by their teachers, and finally achieved good results at the competition.
The LSCAT is the initialism of the Language Service Capability Assessment and Training. It is a comprehensive talent cultivation program planned and carried out by the Chinese Translators Association to meet the national demand for translators in the new economic situation and to promote the healthy and orderly development of the language service industry. This program is aimed at constructing and developing a training, administration and service platform for the multidisciplinary language service talents oriented towards the whole society and practical capabilities.
