On November 1, Mr. Zhang Jiannong, former chief technical translator & terminology bank specialist of Huawei Corporation paid a visit to his alma mater Jiangsu University. He has offered much help to the MTI construction of the School of Foreign Languages and personally teaches the course of Technical Writing to MTI candidates this semester.
Before joining Huaiwei Corporation and holding important posts like chief engineer, top translator and manager of Huawei Translation Center at Nanjing, Zhang Jianhong was a faculty member of Jiangnan University. He mainly engages in the globalization and localization of Huawei products on the international market.
Enlisting the help of his working experiences at Huawei, Zhang Jiannong delivered an interesting and resourceful lecture to the MTI students. Technical Writing is one of the key courses for MTI candidates. In his lecture he illustrated the key points of technical writing with successful cases he had accumulated from his work at Huawei. His lecture is outcome-based where the interactions between the lecturer and students abounded.
Zhang Jianhong is optimistic about the future of MTI program, but he extended the wishes that his students changed their mode of learning. He focused the attention of his students on enhancing their core competitiveness and raising their consciousness of competition exacted of them by new technologies of the times, like big data, artificial intelligence, and machine translation.
Zhang Jianghong’s lecture was well acclaimed by the MTI students. “I learned a lot from Technical Writing. And it broadened my vision and built up my confidence in this major, “ said Yin, one of Zhang’s students present at the lecture.
The invitation of Zhang Jiannong to give lectures to MTI students is an innovative measure taken by the School of Foreign Languages. It is aimed at enhancing the university-enterprise cooperation and providing more and better resources for the postgraduates of the School of Foreign Languages.
