Recently, the 12th Jiangsu Normal School Students’ Basic Teaching Skills Competition (Middle School Liberal Arts Group), sponsored by the Provincial Department of Education and undertaken by the Jiangsu Teacher Education Professional Steering Committee, came to an end. Three undergraduate students of Grade20 from our school, participated in the competition through the selection and testing processes. Following intense competition, student Lu Xincheng was awarded the Second Prize in the Secondary School English Group, while student Cao Ye received the Third Prize.
This competition, considered the most prestigious, largest, and comprehensive event at the provincial level, brought together 1,029 participants from 37 universities across Jiangsu. Jiangsu Second Normal University served as the venue for the competition in the Secondary School Liberal Arts Division, with 234 participants from 19 universities competing on the same stage and showing their elegant demeanour. During the three-day period, the contestants competed in general skills such as writing, preparing lessons, making courseware, simulating teaching and oral expression. The final result of the competition consists of two parts: basic knowledge written test and general skills, which comprehensively examines the comprehensive teaching skills and accomplishment of normal students.
The School of Foreign Languages places great importance on the quality of talent training for normal students, and regards the teaching practice ability of normal students as the top priority of training. This has led to the establishment of a distinctive teaching and competition integration model, emphasizing multi-level teamwork. In recent years, guided by the principles of “learning through competition, teaching through competition, and practicing through competition” and under the careful guidance of the Virtual Teaching and Research Section of English Normal Students' Educational Practice Curriculum Group, our students have consistently excelled in various levels of teaching basic skills competitions, showcasing the high-quality development of talent training for normal students in our school.
