From November 25 to 26, 2023, the first leg of the national speech contest that comprises the “FLTRP•Guocai Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National College Students’ Foreign Language Ability Contest concluded online. The top 150 contestants from all over China participated in the online competition. Jiangsu University School of Electrical and Information Engineering student Wang Mengda advanced to the second leg of the national speech contest with her excellent performance in the prepared speech and subsequent Q&A. This is the first time that a Jiangsu University student has won a national award at the first leg and been promoted to the second leg of this national speech contest.
Earlier than this, from October 15 to November 11, outstanding contestants from more than 70 Jiangsu colleges and universities participated in the speech, translation, interpreting, reading, writing and multiple foreign languages competitions under the umbrella of the “FLTRP•Guocai Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National College Students’ Foreign Language Ability Contest. Jiangsu University students have achieved excellent results in the provincial finals of the above-mentioned competitions. Among them, in the Jiangsu final of the speech competition, Wang Mengda won a first prize and advanced to the national competition, Pan Yefei won a second prize, and Chen Ranran won a third prize. In the Jiangsu final of the translation competition, Peng Fei won a first prize, and Guo Yuxin and Shen Yuting each won a third prize. In the Jiangsu final of the interpreting competition, Han Ruobei won a second prize, and Zhang Wenhui won a third prize. In the Jiangsu final of the reading competition, Wang Zhen, Chen Bing and Li Yin each won a third prize. In the Jiangsu final of the writing competition, Chen Hanlin and Yang Ruifeng each won a second prize, and Zhang Tiantian won a third prize.
The “FLTRP•Guocai Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National College Students’ Foreign Language Ability Contest is an important subject competition (ranked among National A-level Competitions). It is aimed at enhancing students' language and cultural literacy, enriching campus culture, and improving the quality of undergraduate teaching. It has always been thought highly of by leaders of the School and the University level. From September to October this year, campus tryouts for the six competitions were held to select excellent contestants for the provincial and the national competition. The successful hosting of theses competition showcased the solid foundation of Jiangsu University students in foreign languages, further enriched the extracurricular activities in Jiangsu University, and reinforced their enthusiasm for foreign language learning.
