On the afternoon of September 15, President Yan Xiaohong and officials of the Human Resources Department, Social Science Department, International Office, Overseas Education College, and the President’s Office conducted an investigation in and offered guidance to the School of Foreign Languages. The administrative team of the School participated in the meeting with the delegation headed by the president. SFL Dean Li Chongyue gave a report on the professional development of the School and the construction progress of the “Institute of Global Development and Security” of the University level. President Yan fully affirmed the achievements made by the School of Foreign Languages in its professional development. He hoped that the School would highlight the features of foreign language specialty and discipline based on the National First-class Undergraduate Construction Program and the professional degree program of MTI (Master of Translation), and pursue excellence, obtain the first-class objectives, and make greater achievements. When speaking of the construction of University-level research institute, President Yan required the School to pool relevant forces, adhere to the principle of “giving priority to the inter-School forces, focusing on research, and taking the Institute construction as the ladder”, to select the appropriate research forces of the core, the collaborative, and the extended layer, build up the internal structure of the research institute, and speed up the institute construction through both the internal and external promotion with the help of the University. The research institute should target at the right breakthrough point and starting point of research, striving to make achievements as soon as possible. Leaders of the administrative offices of the University at the meeting also put forward targeted suggestions on the work of the School of Foreign Languages and the Institute of Global Development and Security in construction.
