On the afternoon of May12, the School of Foreign Languages heldaUniversity-levelteaching salonentitled“The Integration of“Academic”and“Moral”Education—OntheTeaching Reform oftheJapanese Major under theConception of CurriculumIdeological and PoliticalEducation”inRoom513of the Main Building. The salon was held for the purpose ofbringing into full playtheadvantages offoreign languageeducation, pushingforward the teaching reform and strengtheningthe exchange and cooperation ofcourseideological and politicaleducationamongthe faculty members.SFL Deputy DeanWuPeng, as well as deans and key staffs ofall departments,participated inthe salon. The keynote speaker was Zhou Rong,DeanoftheJapaneseDepartment.
To start with, Dean Zhou Rong introduced the concepts of“shuye(academic)”and“shuren(moral)”education. Then, based on the traditional Chinese conception of“talent cultivation”and the“whole-person education”popular with foreign universities, she expounded the strategy of integrating curriculum ideological and political education into the Japanese major that drives at reforming the classroom instruction against the backdrop of the construction of“New Liberal Arts”.Zhou Rong pointed out that Japaneseteachersshouldplaythe leading role ofpropagating the socialist values intheiracademicteaching, excavate the ideological and political education resources of specialized courses, instill theideals and beliefs in the minds of students in an “invisible” way, realize the simultaneous development ofacademicknowledge andmoralvalues, and finally achieve the effect of “moistening things silently”.After Zhou’s speech,Deputy Dean of the Japanese DepartmentQuan Xiaojing demonstratedthe organicintegrationof ideological and politicaleducation intotheJapanese teachingwith particular reference toSelected Reading of Japanese Newspapers and Periodicals.
To conclude the salon,Wu Penggavefull affirmation totheachievements that have been madein recent yearsby the Japanese Department in the courseideological and political education. He believed that this salonwouldbroadenthe horizon of the SFL faculty,help promotethecombinationof students’comprehensive foreign language application abilitywiththe goal of fosteringstudents’virtue through education, andacceleratethe teaching reform oftheJapanese major.
