On November 24, Nanjing Agricultural University Professor Wang Yinquan gave a lecture in Z513 entitled “Translation of Chinese culture into foreign languages from the perspective of global history and confidence in Chinese culture”. The lecture was presided over by School of Foreign Languages Dean Professor Li Chongyue. More than 50 faculty members and students of the School of Foreign Languages attended the meeting. Wang’s lecture begins with the reason why the perspective of global history must be adopted in cultural studies and a case of History of Imperial China (Harvard University Press) compiled by Timothy Brook, et al. His lecture comprises six parts, that is the Perspective of Historiography, the Perspective of Historical Progress, the Papal Meridian, the Non-Euro-Centrism, the Translation Activities of the Jesuits during the Late-Ming and the Early-Qing Dynasty Period, and the Translation of Chinese Culture into Foreign Languages. The lecturer elaborated the great impact exerted by the interaction between peoples of different areas in history on the cultural evolution and dissemination. He proposed that as a researcher we must explore and highlight the great contribution that has been made by the Chinese culture to the pluralistic world culture and the universality of the Chinese culture to the world. We must be confident with our culture, get over the “Euro-centrism” in cultural studies, and testify to the great contribution that has been made by the Chinese culture to the pluralistic world culture with irrefutable historical facts. After that, Professor Wang dwelled upon the perspective that should be adopted in translating Chinese culture into foreign languages and the confidence in Chinese culture per se. He went on with the initiation of the “Multidisciplinary Studies on Asian Civilizations” by Zhejiang University in recent times, emphasizing that the discipline of foreign languages and literatures of each university should conduct interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary studies under the guidance of “Innovation without Deviation” and in combination with the main discipline features, historical resources, etc. of their own. They should highlight their own characteristics and strong points and try their best to be “the first researcher, the more powerful researcher than others and the most powerful researchers of all”.

He is also a Young and Middle-Aged Science and Technology Leader of Jiangsu 333 High-level Talent Program, a member of Jiangsu Supervising Committee of the Instruction of MA Postgraduates, Vice President of the Translation Professional Committee of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Associations, Vice Chairman of the Translation History Research Committee of the Association of Comparative Studies of English and Chinese, President of the Language Landscape Translation and Teaching Research Association under the World Interpreter and Translator Training Association (WITTA), a national standard expert of of the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission on the “Criteria for the English Translation and Writing in the Field of Public Services”, an expert of the Translation Committee under the Yeeyan Net of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, Vice President of Jiangsu Sci-tech Translators Association, Executive Director of the Translation Culture Research Association under the Association of Comparative Studies of Chinese and Foreign Cultures, a member of the Foreign Discourse Research Committee under the Chinese Translators Association, Founding Director of the Association of Chinese Colleges and Universities for Overseas Sinology, a peer review expert and project completion evaluation expert of the National Social Science Foundation, a peer review expert and project completion evaluation expert of the Translation of Chinese Academic Works under the National Social Science Foundation, and an evaluation expert of the State Language Commission. To recapitulate, Professor Wang is devoted to translation studies.
