On October 23rd, Vice President Ding Jianning held talks with students of English 1702 in the Conference Room of the School of Foreign Languages. School of Foreign Languages Party Committee Secretary Lu Yunsong, Deputy Secretary & Deputy Dean Xia Jianru, and Student Office Deputy Director Zhu Yanjie attended the meeting.
At the meeting, members of English 1702 Class Committee reported the achievements they have made in course learning, academic contests, social practice, etc. They also reviewed from the perspective of ideological orientation the various activities of core socialist values they have organized over the past year, putting forward on behalf of the whole class their ideas on how to reinforce the feelings of home and country and the responsibility of the times of young students. Vice President Ding Jianning listened to the students’ report attentively, discussed the questions of interest with them, and finally extended his ardent hopes for the students. Beginning with the learning of English, he pointed out the importance of the profound historical accumulation and the multidisciplinary knowledge in the growth of students majoring in humanities or social sciences, as well as the pace-setting mission and social responsibility of theirs. He wished the students to constantly elevate their personal qualities through daily exercises on their academic skills so that they would lay a solid foundation for future work. According to Vice President Ding, since the potential of an individual is boundless, we should each set up an ambitious goal and make the greatest effort to obtain it by constantly upgrading our ideological level, increasing our historical accumulations, expanding our scope of knowledge and becoming a person with a great “soul” or “spirit”.
