Days ago, tryouts of the 2019 “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” “Uchallenge” were held in Jiangsu University. The competitions were sponsored jointly by the Teaching Affairs Office and the School of Foreign Languages, undertaken by the International Language Course Center and the Clinic for Foreign Language Learning of the School of Foreign Languages. The Uchallenge embraces the “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” National English Public Speaking Contest, the “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” National English Writing Contest, and the “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” National English Reading Contest. More than 800 students from all majors and grades on campus have been attracted to attend the Uchallenge at Jiangsu University venue.
In the writing tryout held on September 26, a total of 200 contestants sat for the 2-hour writing exam in two sections. Through a day’s grading and selecting, the panelists comprising 7 faculty members of the School finally decided on the award list comprising 2 grand prizes, 10 first prizes, 20 second prizes and 30 third prizes. The 3 best students will attend the 2019 “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” National English Writing Contest for Jiangsu Division on behalf of Jiangsu University. The reading contest was held on September 28, and 3 participants were selected through 2 rounds of fierce competition and they will attend the 2019 “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” English Reading Contest for Jiangsu Division on behalf of Jiangsu University. In the meanwhile, 26 students were awarded a first prize, 51 a second prize, and 72 a third prize. The public speaking contest last for 5 months. 32 contestants were first chosen from 150 participants from different majors and grades of the University to participate in the tryout. Through rounds of careful selection, 16 contestants were entered in the final of the “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” National English Public Speaking Contest for Jiangsu University Division held on the evening of October 19. Two finalists were chosen to attend the contest for Jiangsu Division on behalf of Jiangsu University. In the meanwhile, 5 first, 8 second and 15 third prizes were awarded to excellent participants in the contest for Jiangsu University Division.
The “FLTRP•ETIC Cup” “Uchallenge” is a public competition jointly hosted and organized by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Beijing Waiyan Online Education Technology Co., Ltd, National Foreign Languages Teaching Advisory Board under the Ministry of Education, National Advisory Board on Teaching English Language to Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, and National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education. It is a competition platform created by FLTRP for young participants to challenge themselves, to improve themselves, and to be themselves. Each year Jiangsu University sends the best English talents to participate in the contest and they have won different awards for the University at contests of the provincial level.
