On the afternoon of July 16, a delegation of three, including School of Foreign Languages Deputy Dean Wu Peng and International Language Course Center (College English Teaching Department III) Deputy Dean Ji Lijun, visited the British Language Training Center (BLTC) of the Netherlands. BLTC Director Professor Stephen and Administrative Director Ms. Lucy had an in-depth exchange of views with the Chinese visitors.
The BLTC is the largest provider of English and Dutch language training courses in the Netherlands, which cover all important English examination training and testing programs of the University of Cambridge. It is also the only IELTS examiner in the Netherlands with the direct authorisation of the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES). The BLTC enjoys a high reputation both in the Netherlands and the whole Europe. The delegation headed by Wu Peng first visited the advanced teaching facilities of the Center and the classroom instruction of IELTS and Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CCELA). In the talks that ensued, Professor Stephen and Ms. Lucy elaborated on the overall operation mechanism, training programs, language training conception, model and methodology, and the main teaching resources available for English training in the BLTC. Particularly, they analyzed the current situation, pattern and orientation of the IELTS training in the world. At the request of the Dutch party, Wu Peng gave a fairly comprehensive introduction to the status quo, achievements, and existing problems and working strategies of the English teaching in Jiangsu University. Ji Lijun introduced the history, course construction, and current situation of the International Language Course Center at Jiangsu University. During the talks, Professor Stephen and Ms. Lucy sang a high praise for the “Academic English Teaching Oriented towards Cultivating the Critical Discussion Capability” and the “One Body Two Wings College English Teaching Model” jointly developed by the ILIAS and the International Language Course Center. They expected to cooperate with related teaching groups of the School of Foreign Languages to improve and promote these teaching concepts and models and further promote the training work of international academic English examinations (for example, IELTS and TOEFL).
During his stay in the Netherlands, Wu Peng reached a preliminary intention for cooperation with the BLTC Director Professor Stephen on IELTS teachers’ professional development, IELTS teaching cooperation and mutual assistance, the sharing of online and offline English teaching resources, the CCLTA examination, etc.
