On May 10, the 16th Postgraduate Simulated International Academic Conference--Academic Poster Exhibition & Appraisal was held in the lobby of the Postgraduate Building. This year’s simulated conference, sponsored by the Graduate School and the School of Foreign Languages, was undertaken by the Postgraduate English Teaching Department. More than 100 groups of students registered for the conference and the posters of 52 groups of Chinese students and those of 7 groups of overseas students were selected for the exhibition. On the spot, the Chinese and the overseas students exchanged ideas on the contents of their works with students and faculty at the meeting.
Vice President Quan Li attended the meeting, listening to the detailed introduction made by some postgraduates to the contents of their posters. He was highly affirmative in speaking of the reform that has been carried out on the instruction of postgraduate English courses. President Quan said, the postgraduate English teaching must be of help to the research work of postgraduates so that they will constantly enhance their abilities of reading foreign literatures, writing high-level research papers, and conducting international exchanges, and constantly reinforce their sense of gain in English learning.
In recent years, the faculty of Postgraduate English Teaching Department of Jiangsu University have devoted themselves to exploring a new teaching model. The holding of a simulated international academic conference is ranked among the reform modules of postgraduate English courses. The simulation is organized strictly according to the criteria for an international conference, including academic posters, the writing of key points and oral presentation. It is intended to help postgraduates familiarize themselves with the rules and processes of an international conference and get prepared for their future academic exchanges in the international community.
