Recently, the top international periodical Argumentation officially published its No. 1, Vol. 33 issue of 2019, which contains 5 research papers and 2 book reviews. “Confrontational Maneuvering by Dissociation in Spokespersons’ Argumentative Replies at the Press Conferences of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs” by Deputy Dean Wu Peng of the School of Foreign Languages, Jiangsu University was printed as the first paper of the issue and with special recommendation by the editors.
Dr. Wu’s paper analyzes the frequent use of dissociations in the spokespersons’ replies at the press conferences of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working out the typical subtypes of dissociation strategy employed by spokespersons at the press conference and the strategic maneuvering involved within the framework of pragma-dialectics, and meanwhile conducting a preliminary evaluation on the rationality of these subtypes of dissociation in view of institutional context, cultural context and historical context. The paper is one of the important stage achievements of the Youth Project of the National Social Science Fund of China.
