On October 27, entrusted by Beijing Center of Japan Foundation, the School of Foreign Languages successfully hosted in Room 802 of Sanshan Building the “2018 Japanese-Language Education Overseas (Jiangsu)” meant to promote the reform on college Japanese teaching, meet the local demand on Japanese teacher development, provide an opportunity and resources for professional training on leaders as well as key teachers of Japanese-language education, and in the meanwhile establish a platform on which Japanese teachers in Jiangsu province might communicate with each other. At the opening ceremony, Deputy Dean Professor Su Jianhong delivered a speech, welcoming more than 50 Japanese teachers from 17 colleges and universities in Jiangsu province.
The meeting was held at two stages: the morning and the afternoon workshop. In the morning, Japanese expert Mai Fujii at Beijing Center of Japan Foundation gave a speech titled “How to cultivate the self-study ability of Japanese Students with a file folder”. In view of the passive learning of college Japanese students, Fujii gave a detailed expounding on the features of a file folder, on what should be placed in a file folder, and on the educational function of a file folder. She visualized her lecture by resorting to her own experiences. At the afternoon workshop Mr. Wang Chongliang at Beijing Center of Japan Foundation delivered a lecture titled “Instruction of Intermediate and Advanced Listening Comprehension”. Mr. Wang, focusing his lecture on the poor listening comprehension of Japanese students in China, analyzed the causes for this situation and problems concerning the current listening courses. He offered three models for listening comprehension and highlighted the strategies that might be employed to improve the listening ability.
In the process of of their lectures, the two experts allowed time for discussion on the spot, when the teachers shared their own practical experiences of Japanese teaching. The workshop was enthused by the discussion that broadened the vision of and the communication between the teachers. A platform was actually established for the sharing of information and the cooperation in the future. Ms. Fujii also introduced to the workshop participants “Learn Japanese with Allen·Contest on Chorus of a Theme Song and Composition of Words” and the online resources of the Japan Foundation. The workshop that lasts a whole day was concluded in a light atmosphere.
The Japanese-Language Education Overseas is an important link of the Japanese education program meant to help to teachers of the Japanese language in China to improve their level of Japanese teaching that is offered by Beijing Center of the Japan Foundation.
