On November 3, the 2018 “FLTRP Cup” National Business English Practice Contest for East China was held in Anhui University of Finance and Economics in Bengbu, Anhui province. A delegation of 8 English majors of Grade 2016, the School of Foreign Languages, Jiangsu University, including Huang Xiaohan, Li Rui, Hong Shuting and Wang Jianbo, won a second prize at the contest. Huang Xiaohan won an individual award for her excellent performance in business English communication and flexible adaptation. Ma Ying and Yao Wei were ranked among the “Best Instructors”.
The “FLTRP Cup” National Business English Practice Contest is co-sponsored by the National Advisory Board on Teaching English Language to Majors in Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, the International Business English Research Committee of the Chinese Society of International Trade, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. It is currently the only academic business English contest in in China. By far 12 contests have been held. The competition aims at cultivating students’ business English communication ability, improving their quality of applying business knowledge to practice, arousing their innovative thinking, encouraging them to conduct in-depth practical investigation on enterprises, learning and summing up successful business ideas and management modes, working out feasible, effective, innovative solutions to business problems, and striving to turn international business elites who can apply what they have learned to serve the society.
The competition welcomed about 20 teams from colleges and universities in East China. The excellent business cases devised by SFL students were successfully promoted to the regional competition, where competed with representatives of 6 well-known colleges and universities, namely Anhui University of Finance and Economics, Shanghai University of Foreign Trade and Economics, Nanjing Xiaozhuang College, Zhejiang University of Finance and Economics, Zhejiang Institute of Foreign Languages and Chuzhou College. Our students excelled in business case design, on-the-spot demonstration and Q&A. They were commended by both panelists and audiences for their fluent English and rigorous logical thinking.
The competition helped promote students’ ability to find, analyze and solve problems, as well as their business English communication ability. Last but not the least, their performance at the contest helped publicize Jiangsu University.
