September 8-11, the short-term experience project titled “A Charming Journey of English” was accomplished for students in the Jinshan Talent Class, Grade 2018, Jiangsu University.
The short-term experience project tailored for students in the “Jinshan Talent Class” by the Center for International Language Courses at SFL, on one hand is aimed at highlighting the importance of commanding three core competencies in the whole process of English learning: the competency of practical language use, the competency of critical thinking, and the competency of intercultural communication; on the other hand it helps fix a personalized College English learning plan for individual students through face-to-face coaching. For this purpose, the Center for International Language Courses set up a project team. Members of the team brainstormed to meticulously devise and offer seven interactive courses, namely “What do we experience in learning College English?”, “IETLS: The entree to the world stage”, “Academic English: Opening the door to overseas study”, “Intercultural communication: A must of global villagers”, “Speak out your mind: An introduction to critical thinking”, “The charm of English poetry”, and “A glimpse of Britain”.
The short-term project was warmly received by the freshmen in the “Jinshan Talent Class”, who actually see the distinction between college and pre-college English learning, better understand the competencies of language, thinking and communication required of a top-notch talent on the international market, and lay a good foundation for their way to the international community.
