On April 15th, in Jiangsu semi-finals of the 7th “LSCAT Cup” National Interpretation Contest (English) held in Nanjing University, five students of Jiangsu University headed by Ms. Zhu Yanjie of the School of Foreign Languages eventually got fairly good results that would do honor to Jiangsu University through their painstaking efforts at the preliminaries, semi-finals and finals. Medical school student Ye Xiaohan won a second prize of Jiangsu province, School of Foreign Languages student Zhou Tianbao, Yang Yangyang, Liu Qi, and Medical School student Nadia won a third prize of Jiangsu Province.
Jiangsu semi-finals of the 7th “LSCAT Cup” National Interpretation Contest were sponsored by the China Translators Association and organized by the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University. The Contest is one of the interpretation contests of the highest level in the circle of foreign languages of Jiangsu province. The competition was launched in March. Top-level students from Nanjing University, Southeast University, Nanjing Normal University, Soochow University, Jiangsu University, and PLA Institute of International Relations joined the fierce rivalry at the pre-qualifying stage. Professor Wang Kefei at Beijing Foreign Studies University, also a PhD supervisor and editor-in-chief of Foreign Language Teaching and Research, Professor Xu Wei from Zhejiang University, also distinguished professor of the “Changjiang Scholars” of the Ministry of Education and a famous translator, Director Li Xiaoxiang of Jiangsu Association for Foreign Language Teaching and Research, etc served as judges of the contest. The agile thinking, accurate expression and standard pronunciation and intonation exhibited by JU students in the course of the competition were highly valued by all judges. They achieved excellent results with their overall excellent performance.
These are the best results that JU students have achieved in this event. In recent years the School of Foreign Languages have taken measures to tamp their foundations and raise the level of teaching quality by following the major construction objectives formulated by the School for College English and the English Major for the new era and adhering to the principle of “integrating classroom teaching with extra-curricular/overseas development and the applied language ability with the critical thinking ability and intercultural communication skills.” The School has drastically enhanced the basic English skills and the critical thinking ability of the students.
