From October 25 to November 2, 2024, Jiangsu provincial finals of the “FLTRP • Guocai Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” National Foreign Language Contest for College Students took place at Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing Forestry University and Hohai University. Outstanding contestants from more than 70 universities and colleges across Jiangsu competed for the precious awards in the Jiangsu Provincial Finals, including English speaking, comprehensive abilities, translation, interpreting and short video competitions. Following intense competition, JSU students demonstrated outstanding performance in the provincial finals of the above-mentioned competitions.

The theme of this year’s contest is “Understanding China, Communicating with the World.” It aims to deepen the “three entering” project, innovate curriculum-based ideological and political education, promote educational reform, and test the teaching achievements in an effort to tell China’s stories well and serve the international communication. “FLTRP•Guocai Cup” “Understanding Contemporary China” Contest has been listed on the Analysis Report of National General College Students’ Competition for many years, and its national finals ranks among A-level Competitions in undergraduate subject competition. The leadership of the SFL and JSU have attached great importance to the contest.
This event was jointly organized by JSU’s Student Affairs Office and SFL from June to October. SFL Coaching Board of Subject Competitions organized a university-level trial, selected outstanding participating students from all the students for the Jiangsu provincial finals on the basis of fair competition, organized instruction teams and offered collective and one-to-one assistance to the participating students. This year’s competition was a success, demonstrating the solid foundation of SFL students in foreign languages, the ability to think and analyse, intercultural competence and international communication capacity of telling China’s stories well, further enriching the extracurricular activities in JSU and improving the college students foreign language proficiency.
