On October 23rd, Professor Wang Yihong, doctoral supervisor and head of the Japanese Department at the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University, was invited to give an academic lecture titled "Exploration and Practice of Talent Cultivation Reform in Japanese Studies" at the School of Foreign Languages. The lecture aimed to explore new paths for talent cultivation in Japanese language majors, and attracted teachers and students of Japanese language majors as well as scholars from related fields of foreign language disciplines to participate.
Firstly, Professor Wang analyzed the changing times and the situation of Japanese language majors in this lecture, pointing out that the China-Japan relations under the framework of China's stable development is becoming increasingly complex. It is not only influenced by the complex historical factors between China and Japan, but also by the United States' efforts to maintain regional hegemony in the Asia-Pacific/Indo- Pacific region. Currently, a win-win co-operative East Asian order is being constructed under the idea of regionalism. She believes that this is the macro background of the construction and development of Japanese language majors in China.
In the face of the opportunities and challenges of the new era, Professor Wang proposed the overall strategy of integrating into the construction of the "New Liberal Arts", promoting the reform and practice of the Japanese language major through disciplinary integration, diversified professional competition empowerment, and diversified practice and evaluation mechanism reform. She believes that developing Japanese studies on the basis of language and literature, comparative literature, translation, and regional and country studies. She emphasized the importance of translation in Japanese language education and Japanese studies research and believes that translation is not only a training of language skills, but also a key tool for promoting cultural exchange, cross-cultural understanding, and Japanese studies research. Professor Wang, based on the teaching reform practice experience of Nanjing University, provided a detailed introduction to the curriculum and practical achievements related to translation. She pointed out that translation is an important way to improve students' comprehensive quality and also an important aspect of enriching teachers' scientific research achievements.
During the interaction, Professor Wang had in-depth discussions with undergraduate students majoring in Japanese on the cultivation of innovative abilities, translation technology, and the impact and application of artificial intelligence. She encourages them to accumulate experience through subject competitions and other practical activities, enhance their innovation ability, understand the positive effects and potential negative impacts of artificial intelligence, and actively use artificial intelligence to promote Japanese language learning.
The lecture received a warm response, and participants expressed that they had benefited greatly. Through Professor Wang's explanation, teachers and students have deepened their understanding of the development prospects of the Japanese language major and clarified the direction of future development. This lecture provides new ideas for the construction of Japanese language majors and valuable experience for Japanese academic research and the development of "new liberal arts".
