Nanjing Forestry University Professor Gives a Lecture at SFL

On the afternoon of April 19th, Professor He Baonian from Nanjing Forestry University was invited to give a lecture titled "Changes in the Meaning of Chinese Characters in Japanese Language" in Room 2307 of No. 2 Jingjiang Building. The lecture was hosted by Associate Professor Dai Lin, Deputy Director of the Japanese Department. About 40 teachers and students from our school attended the lecture.

In the lecture, Professor He introduced the changes in the meaning of Chinese characters in Japanese from such aspects as ordinary Chinese characters, borrowing Chinese characters, omitting Chinese characters, and replacing Chinese characters. He analyzed the reasons for the changes in various types of Chinese characters in Japanese and their differences in meaning from Chinese. This lecture guides students to understand the differences in meaning and culture between Chinese and Japanese characters, providing assistance in improving students' cross-cultural communication skills. During the Q&A session, Professor He, our faculty and the students discussed  issues concerning the teaching and research of Japanese linguistics, lexicology and other fields, providing useful references and inspirations for teachers and students engaged in teaching or research in these areas.

Professor He Baonian is currently a professor at the School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing Forestry University, and the vice president of the Jiangsu branch of the Chinese Japanese Language Teaching Research Association. His research field is Japanese linguistics, and he is mainly engaged in comparative studies of Chinese and Japanese characters and Chinese character words. He has published over 50 papers, authored 1 monograph, and co-authored 5 monographs in academic journals both domestically and internationally.
