November 9, University of New South Wales Dr. Zhong Yong delivered a lecture in Z513 titled “The assessment and promotion of ESP in a global perspective”. The lecture was presided over by School of Foreign Language Deputy Dean Professor Su Jianhong. 31 Grade 2017 students majoring in English Education as well as more than 20 faculties of the School attended the workshop-type lecture.
The lecture devoted to studies on the assessment and promotion of ESP is designed as a workshop allowing students to experience the ESP2.0 curriculum and the ESP language class initiated by Professor Zhong. The workshop contains a lot of contents, where the participants are required to organize teams after watching related videos to demonstrate what they have learned through watching the video and completing the designated tasks. Through embodied activities, students may enjoy the shared learning, the learning based jointly created contents, research-oriented learning, individualized learning, and self-guided learning, and further promote their comprehensive abilities in academic English comprising expressive ability, communicating ability, digital media production ability, team cooperative ability, etc.
Dr. Zhong Yong is a researcher at the University of New South Wales (one of the 8 research universities in Australia), a distinguished professor at Northwest University of China and an honorary professor at Xi’an Jiao Tong University, Fuzhou University, Xi’an Architecture Science and Technology University, University of Economy in Bydgoszcz of Poland, etc. He is the editor-in-chief of Rural Education, an editorial board member of Meta and Interpreter and Translator Trainers, and a language and culture counselor of the courts of all ranks in New South Wales, Australia. He won the UNSW FASS Dean's Award for best contribution to scholarship of learning and teaching, 2010 and the Citation by ALTC (Australian Learning and Teaching Council, 2009.
