September 13, in No. 1 Lecture Hall of the Meeting Center, Professor Sugimoto Yoshihiko of Kyoto University of Japan gave his lecture titled “The consumption of The Tale of Genji in contemporary Japan”. The lecture was presided over jointly by Professor Su Jianhong, a deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages and Associate Professor Lu Xueying, director of Modern Japan Research Center. All faculties and students of the Japanese Department attended the meeting.
Professor Sugimoto Yoshihiko introduced in his lecture the adaptation of The Tale of Genji in animie, film and TV in modern Japanese society, as well as the tourism site that dramatizes this classical novel. By skillfully kneading the ancient and the modern Japanese society, Professor Sugimoto Yoshihiko acquainted the listeners with the basic knowledge of the Japanese classics in a mere lecture and greatly aroused their interest in the flexible use of these classics in today’s Japanese society.
Professor Sugimoto Yoshihiko is a famous Japanese historian from Kyoto University, one of the worldly prestigious universities. His main research interests include Western History, Media Culturology, etc. His research achievements have been highly commended in the Japanese academic circles.
