On the morning of July 6, the first “2017 Seminar on the Department Teaching Administration” was held at the Meeting Room of the School of Foreign Languages. Party Secretary Lu Yunsong, Dean Chen Hong, Deputy Dean Su Jianhong, Deputy Dean Li Chongyue, as well as deans and deputy deans of all teaching departments of the School attended the meeting. Dean Assistant Wu Peng presided over the meeting.
At the meeting, Party Secretary Lu Yunsong and Dean Chen Hong gave important instructions to the department administration in succession. Party Secretary Lu stressed his demands of ideological concern on the department deans, asking them to form 4 consciousnesses: political consciousness, the consciousness of overall situation, the consciousness of the Party core, and the consciousness of dressing to the core, to bravely shoulder the glorious duty and mission of an educator, and to exert themselves to resurrect the common sense, the traditional duty, the initial aspiration, and the dream of higher education. Then Dean Chen Hong declared the updated department framework, detailing the functions and tasks of each department. Dean Chen said, in the context of the acceleration of the University’s mission of building an international “double first-class” university, each department is obliged to earnestly speculate about how to develop new ideas, maintain our features, and seek a greater development while guaranteeing the teaching quality, about how to actually enrich the contents and raise the level of each course by leading our teaching work with advanced but practicable teaching notion and teaching research.
After the keynote speeches by School leaders, department heads introduced their wonderful teaching experiences, raised practical questions and further exchanged their achievements and shortcomings in department administration. In the atmosphere of mutual encouragement and assistance, they began to fix the main orientation for their future effort on teaching and administration. To sum up the discussions, Deputy Dean Su Jianhong said, we have portrayed a vivid picture of resurrecting the initial aspiration of teaching by exploring the teaching, research and administration calmly here in a summer vacation. He also gave practical suggestions to the department heads for their future work. The first “2017 Seminar on the Department Teaching Administration” was successfully concluded in a friendly and harmonious atmosphere.
The holding of a “Seminar on the Department Teaching Administration” is one of the new measures taken by the School of Foreign Languages to actually enhance our teaching quality and level. It is held for the purpose of breaking the latent barriers in teaching work between different departments, thus fortifying the connections between the departments by sharing our experiences and shortcomings in teaching administration and exploring the solutions to common problems confronting all of us. From the next semester, we will hold a seminar regularly each month on a particular theme to discuss teaching issues and report the existing problems with teaching practice to the Joint Party and Administration Meeting of the School.
