May 19, Prof. Yuan Fuzhi, dean of the School of Media, Josai International University of Japan, Yoshioka Shigemi, a famous musician and visiting professor of Josai International University of Japan, and Prof. Shoji Kaneko of Bunri University of Hospitality visited Jiangsu University, accompanied by Mr. Zhang Xuwei at the Office of the People's Government of Zhenjiang City. The Japanese visitors came to negotiate on cooperation matters. Prof. Chen Hong, dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Prof. Su Jianhong, a deputy dean of the School and Dr. Liu Shoujun of the Japanese Department received Prof. Yuan Fuzhi and his entourage in the Meeting Room of the School of Foreign Languages.
At the symposium, Dean Chen first extended a warm welcome to Professor Yuan and his delegation and expressed her wishes to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two parties. Dean Chen thanked Yoshioka Shigemi for his long-standing support to the exchange work of the Japanese Department, hoping that Ms. Yoshioka would do more work on friendly exchanges in the future by taking the School of Foreign Languages as her foothold. Dr. Liu Shoujun briefly introduced the University and its discipline characteristics, international development strategy, and objective of constructing a “double first-class” university. He also gave an overview of the School of Foreign Languages and the Japanese Department and the achievements that have been made in their development.
After introducing the school profile of Josai International University, Yuan Fuzhi gave a detailed introduction to the cooperation project between his university and major universities in China. Then he exchanged ideas with Dean Chen Hong and Deputy Dean Su Jianhong on the "2 + 2" Double Degree Program, the Double Master's Degree Program, and the Incumbent Doctoral Degree Program. Both parties extended the wishes to put into practice cooperation of all kinds soon.
Yoshioka Shigemi is a famous Japanese musician and an old friend of Zhenjiang townspeople. In August 2010, She was awarded the title of “Honorary Citizen of Zhenjiang”. In 2012, she paid a two-day visit to JSU. Since 2007, Ms. Yoshioka has been on a song-collecting tour, holding concerts and carrying out friendly exchanges in Zhenjiang each year on July 7th on the lunar Chinese calendar. She specially composed a Tanabata (Qixi) song for Zhenjiang named “A Love Song of Wanxian Bridge - Zhenjiang Star Story”. With the release of the song in Japan, more Japanese people understand Zhenjiang better. Ms. Yoshioka hopes to spread more widely the Tanabata (Qixi) culture symbolizing “love and peace”, and to promote the activities related to the Tanabata culture with the School of Foreign Languages, Jiangsu University as the vantage point.
Finally, President Chen once again expressed her gratitude to the delegation headed by Yuan Fuzhi for their visit. She hoped that the two sides would further strengthen ties and deepen cooperation so as to create a vantage point for the promotion of Tanabata culture, to cultivate high-level Japanese talents, and to make greater contribution to the cultural exchanges between China and Japan.
