May 17, Research Fellow Yuan Shouqi, secretary of the University Party Committee, delivered a lecture titled “English learning and international talents” to excellent undergraduates of Grade 2106 in the 1st Lecture Hall of the International Meeting Center. The lecture was sponsored by CET Departments of the School of Foreign Languages. Dean Chen Hong presided over the lecture, which was attended by School Party Committee Secretary Lu Yunsong, School Deputy Dean Professor Su Jianhong,School Deputy Dean Professor Li Chongyue, Deputy Director Xue Hongli of the Teaching Affairs Office, and all faculties of the two CET Departments.
In his lecture, Party Committee Secretary Yuan first set forth the active role that has been played in recent years by the international strategies in promoting the comprehensive potential and the academic competitiveness of Jiangsu University, stressing the importance of reinforcing the English learning and promoting the English level in a globalized era. Then Party Committee Secretary Yuan shared his experience of English learning from the four aspects of “listening, speaking, reading and writing”, encouraged students to further promote their English level after passing the CET-4 and the CET-6, actively participated in the international proficiency English tests like the IELTS and the TOEFL, and paved the way to an international talent with English proficiency. He emphasized that to learn English well, we must have a concrete plan, but more importantly we should put it into practice and take time to study hard every day and in a persistent way.
Party Committee Secretary Yuan explained in his lecture profound ideas in simple, witty and humorous language. His lecture was enlightening to all the audience. After the lecture was over, the students were eager to raise questions, which Party Committee Secretary Yuan answered carefully by resorting to his personal experience. (School of Foreign Languages)
