On the afternoon of April 26, the 10th Jiangsu University Teaching Salon was successfully held in Z513 by the School of Foreign Languages. Planned and organized by Associate Professor Wu Peng, dean of CET Department 1, the salon was presided over by Associate Professor Hua Houqun, dean of CET Department 2, who made a keynote speech as well. More than 40 front-line teachers of the two CET Departments attended the salon.
First, Hua Houkun delivered a speech titled “Exploration into and practice on college English teaching and research system stylized as “one body two wings” that highlights the cultivation of international engineering talents”. His presentation introduces “the spirit of craftsmanship of college English teachers” that heralds the new round of college English teaching curriculum in Jiangsu University, including its background, philosophy, standards, and practical approaches as well as the distinctive achievements that have been made up to the present time, focusing on the connotation and features of the brand-new college English teaching and research system stylized as “one body two wings”. His wonderful speech pointed out the teaching orientation and reform highlights in the current context of teaching reform.
Next, Ms. Kong Lingxuan, deputy dean of CET Department 1 made a detailed interpretation of the completely new set of advanced courses of College English, including the setting of advanced courses and the scheduling of public elective courses. And then Ms. Wu Aihui, director of Clinic for Foreign Language Learning summed up the various questions that have been raised by students in more than one year since its inception during the learning diagnosis process. She pointed out several characteristics of college English learning in Jiangsu University and specific solutions to the existing problems, letting the audience know more about the common learning troubles among the students and providing references for future improvement in their teaching. In the end, Ms. Li Xia, who was in charge of “the Communication Meeting for Sino-foreign teachers of English”, reported the past meetings that have been held, focusing on the collaborative lesson preparation of Sino-foreign teachers and the teaching experiences and deficiencies. Ms. Li’s speech was quite informative, providing provoking ideas for the professional development of teachers.
The successful salon has laid a basis for the further promotion of college English teaching reform. Participants all extend wishes to make concerted efforts to bring into full play “the spirit of craftsmanship”, to perfect the teaching of College English and do their bits in the cultivation of international engineering talents.
