November 22, the School of Foreign Languages held the 1st Plenary Session of the Faculty and Trade Union Congress in Z513. 63 delegates from all departments of the School as well as all School leaders attended the meeting chaired by the School Party Committee Deputy Secretary and Deputy Dean Xia Jianru. Heads of collegiate departments other than the elected delegates were also present at the meeting.
The Congress commenced with the solemn and sonorous chorus of the national anthem by the delegation. Dean Chen Hong first made her report titled “Remain committed to our mission and strive with concerted efforts to drive the transformation and development of the School” on behalf of the School of Foreign Languages. The dean’s report comprising the Status Quo, the Discipline Construction, the Talent Cultivation and the Future Direction of the School detailed the development, changes, achievements and shortcomings of the School between 2014 and 2016, fixing the objective of “establishing a foreign language discipline important in Jiangsu and influential in China”. The School of Foreign Languages should do its bit in constructing Jiangsu University into an international research university. Then Branch Trade Union Chairman Zhao Haihong made his working report titled “Achieve good results repeatedly by offering heartfelt services to and being friends with faculty members” on behalf of the previous Trade Union Committee of the School. Zhao’s report is divided into three parts, that is Attention of the Party and the administration, Active Participation of the Faculty, and Promoting the Service Capacity of the Trade Union. The report reviewed the achievements that have been made by the School Trade Union in the past three years and concluded with a plan on future work.
The Congress elected new members, chair and vice chair of the School Trade Union Committee by secret ballot. Zhao Haihong, Tian Hong, Hu Qihao, Wan Xuemei, Li Meng, Feng Ruizhen and Ding Ming were elected committee members, and Zhao Haihong and Tian Hong respectively chair and vice chair of the Committee.
At the end of the Congress, School Party Committee Secretary Lu Yunsong made a concluding remark. Lu first affirmed the achievements that have been made by the School and the School Trade Union in the past three years, extending his thanks to the leadership of the previous Trade Union Committee and his congratulations to the newly elected Branch Trade Union Committee members. He noted that both the University and the School are now in an important period of strategic opportunity for their reform and development. In a historic new era shortly delineated by the 19th National Congress of the CPC, each delegate to the School Faculty and Trade Union Congress should shoulder more important responsibilities and take on more arduous tasks. We are expected to earnestly perform our duties as delegates to offer our proposals and suggestions with the attitude of committed members and make more contributions to the construction of the University and the School concertedly and collectively.
The Congress concluded with the chorus of “Union Is Power” by the delegation.
