April 8, the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Language Big Data Alliance (LBDA) was held in Guangzhou. Professor Li Chongyue, deputy dean of the School of Foreign Languages, attended the meeting that declared the School of Foreign Languages, JSU a member of the LBDA.
The meeting was jointly undertaken by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Global Tone Communication Technology Co., Ltd. Present at the meeting are Huang Youyi, former deputy director & editor-in-chief of China Foreign Language Bureau & vice president of China Translators’ Association, Hannelore Lee-Jahnke, honorary president of the CIUTI and dean of the School of Translation, the University of Geneva, Maurizio Viezzi, president of the CIUTI, Martin Forstner, former secretary general, vice president and later president of the CIUTI, together with presidents of famous foreign language colleges and universities in China, including Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Sichuan International Studies University and Xi’an International Studies University and others. The participants in the meeting expressed their opinions freely on the significance of big data and its impact on foreign language teaching, translation teaching and practice and related studies.
The LBDA was co-founded by governmental offices, non-governmental organizations, corporations, institutions of higher learning and research institutes. The Alliance was established in response to the call in “Guideline for the Promotion of Big Data Development” promulgated by the State Council in 2015 to speed up the sharing of language big data and related technologies among different colleges and universities in the fields of teaching, practice and research. The LBDA is a globalized, multidisplinary, multilingual sci-tech application alliance based on the platform of big data opening and sharing. It is an open platform constructed for the multi-party cooperation and resource sharing among governments, enterprises, colleges and universities and research institutes. It is intended to provide support for teaching, practice, business expansion and so on based on its opening billion-size corpus resource, technological resource and platform resource.
