May 13, the 6th National “LSCAT Cup” Interpretation Competition (English) for East China students was held in Suiyuan Campus of Nanjing Normal University. Ye Xiaohan, a medical student of Grade 2015, Jiangsu University, won a third prize at the Competition. It is a breakthrough of Jiangsu University in the above-provincial-level interpretation competition. Ye Xiaohan’s adviser, Ji Lijun of the CET Department, the School of Foreign Languages won an “Excellent Adviser Prize” as well.
The 2017 Competition welcomed more than 150 competitors from 6 provinces and 1 municipality that comprise East China. They are all winners of the provincial-level competitions in the 6 provinces and 1 municipality, most of whom were English majors, majors in translation studies and MTI candidates and some of whom have already participated in various interpretation competitions. In the competition with strong rivals, Ye Xiaohan won an unanimous acclaim of the judges by exhibiting her solid foundation in English composedly on the spot. Before she attended the competition for East China students, she had won good marks in the preliminary, secondary, and final competition of Jiangsu University and the competition for students in Jiangsu province.
The National Interpretation Competition was sponsored by China Translators Association. It is held to meet the ever increasing need of China for international exchanges, to cultivate high-quality language service talents, to promote the overall development of college English teaching and to provide students with a platform to improve their language learning and use. The School of Foreign Languages has always attached importance to the national competitions of all kinds, including the interpretation competition, and regarded competition as one of the most important auxiliary devices for the promotion of talent cultivation quality.
