Objective: To cultivate inter-disciplinary talents equipped with the basic knowledge in both humanities and sciences as well as the subject of English, possessing powerful practical capabilities, innovative consciousness, a broad international vision, a strong drive for teamwork and good communicative abilities, and eligible for the work at offices of international exchanges and cooperation, companies of international business, multinationals, joint ventures, travel agents, and educational institutions, who will accommodate themselves to the development in society & politics, economy, culture and science and technology in the 21st century and turn key employees both in their professional and administrative work.
Requirements:
We are mainly aimed at inculcating to students basic theories and knowledge in literature, linguistics, and translation studies, training their basic skills in research, teaching, business, etc., and qualifying them for the work at offices of international exchanges and cooperation, companies of international business, multinationals, joint ventures, travel agents, and educational institutions. The graduates shall possess the following qualifications, knowledge and capabilities:
1. A high level of moral standards, a strong social responsibility and good professional ethics;
2. A good command of the professional knowledge of linguistics, literature, translation studies, intercultural communication, pedagogy, psychology and others required of employees of foreign affairs, foreign trade and educational work.
3. A systematic practice on the instruction of language and culture and internship at international businesses and updates on the recent studies and trends in the academic field per se.
4. The ability of applying the professional knowledge to the analysis and solution of problems, including but not limited to problems in the fields of intercultural businesses, tourism, teaching, etc.;
5. The basic approaches to information retrieval, data query, and the acquisition of related information by means of modern information technology;
6. A command of the national guidelines, policies, laws and regulations in the fields of diplomacy, tourism, culture and education, international business, etc., and proper understanding of the impact on society and the objective world of international exchanges in the globalized age;
7. The consciousness of sustainable development and a command of the administrative, expressive, and interpersonal communicative capabilities and the leadership in a group;
8. An international vision and good consciousness of sound competition and cooperation, and the reading and speaking abilities in a second language for general purposes.

Core Courses:Basic English, Advanced English, An Introduction to Literature, An Introduction to Linguistics, An Introduction to Translation, A Survey of English-speaking Countries, etc.
Duration and Degree: A regular duration of 4 years that fluctuates between 3 and 8 years. A bachelor’s degree in arts shall be awarded.
Lowest Credits for Graduation: 175 credits, including 165 credits for intra-curricular courses and 10 credits for practice of courses.

Other Notes on the Curricula: (Self-study courses; PBL and CBL courses; courses offered by an enterprise supervisor; bilingual courses or English-taught courses, etc.)
1. Each undergraduate student must obtain 1 credit for entrepreneurship course and 2 credits for innovation and entrepreneurship practice. The students will obtain the credit for the former mainly by taking an online course on entrepreneurship, a MOOC course, etc. And they will obtain the credits for the latter mainly by winning awards at the college English public speaking, writing, reading and translation competitions at the provincial or above level; by publishing academic papers, completing the innovation practice projects or research projects for college students at the University or the provincial level; by getting the certificate for a teacher, a business executive, an accountant, a customs declarer, an interpreter of the intermediate or the senior level, etc.
2. During their school years, each undergraduate must obtain 6 credits for the module of self-study courses comprising inter-disciplinary professional courses, advanced professional courses, and advanced English courses.
3. In line with the reform on teaching methodology that is being actively promoted by the University, we offer key courses comprising PBL courses like The Art of English Public Speaking and International Business Negotiation and Etiquette, CBL courses like English Interpreting, and discussion-based courses like English-Chinese Contrast and Translation.
4. To actively enhance the bilingual education, we offer bilingual courses like International Business Practice and International Economics.
5. We actively promote the work of classroom instruction by enterprise (off-campus) supervisor, inviting senior business executives to offer guidance on the teaching of International Business Negotiation and Etiquette, and key middle school teachers to give lectures on Standards for English Curricula and Textbook Research.
